Louth Volunteer Centre, in partnership with Louth Minority Ethnic Consortium, hosted a multicultural fun afternoon at St Mary's GAA club in Ardee, Co Louth on Saturday 14th June.

The event showcased some of the different cultures in Ardee, with food and entertainment from around the globe provided by people living locally and it was an unmissable event, with loads of fun and plenty to do for children of all ages!

  • This National Volunteering Week, Louth Volunteer Centre hosted two volunteer Fairs, to give you the opportunity to meet as many local organisations and charities as you like.  By doing this, we hope to help you find the opportunity that suits you best.

PJ Gallagher NVW1Comedian, biker and volunteer PJ Gallagher has encouraged people to find their passion and use it to volunteer, as National Volunteering week takes place this week.

Describing volunteering as his new passion, he said his love of motorbikes led him to become a volunteer courier of emergency blood.

“I got in to motorbikes after my dad died. I remember getting on the bike soon after he died and for the first time in weeks, my head was completely clear. Volunteer bikers use their time, skills and enthusiasm to help hospitals by transporting blood and urgent medical supplies.

“Before the organisation started, every time an item needed to go from one hospital to another, outside of normal operating hours, the hospital had to pay for a taxi, courier or ask an ambulance service to take it. Blood Bikes East now provides this service free of charge. I get so much out of volunteering. I’d recommend it to anyone. If a motorbike-loving stand-up comedian can find his ideal volunteering role, anyone can!”

  • community forumThe Theme of this year's Louth Community Forum conference was 'Our Community, Our Voice' with John Lonergan, former Governor of Mountjoy Prison as Guest Speaker.

The Conference was a great opportunity for people involved in community to hear about and provide feedback on the rollout of new structures called 'Public Participation Networks (PPN)' from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. These structures are being developed in each local authority area (engaging within Municipal districts and at the County/City level) to enable the public to take an active formal role in relevant policy making and oversight committees of the Local Authority. You can find more info on PPN here

For the Conference this year,  a number of community groups that are registered with us were filmed to show others in our county the work that community groups do.
